Business model for mobile payment provider:
1. Go stealth
2. Get out of stealth, flood with press releases
3. Promise to reach 4 billion people
4. Build YAMPS (Yet Another Mobile Payment System)

20% of all transactions fail? Is there a source for this claim?

From my experience, it is an argument for merchants to use SMS payment instead of credit cards, as there is much less chargebacks and errors.

Disregarding the 20% claim, the idea seems fine, but, as Alex said, customers are not very happy about yet another relationship with a financial services provider.

Clumsy, you say? :) Maybe that's exactly what the customer wants. Customers don't want yet another lasting 'relationship' with ANY financial services provider. Ask them if you don't believe me, they will tell.
