I wonder how an issuer is going to feel about a portfolio with zero interchange. Sure, they'll do great on revolvers, but are they going to tell their convenience users to cut up their cards since they're incurring losses on every transaction?

Was there, he said anything but that customers need to register and then RM becomes their brand name in payments, taking customers out of the banks exactly as Paypal, but without the interchange.....

Finally, a resonable place to put some TARP money! The country needs fuel in the innovation engine, even if final prospects for challenging the status quo may be somewhat dubious and the RM overhead a bit bloated for a start up. Better in the effort to stimulate the "new and different" than sitting on the balance sheet. Maybe there is something to be said for the brute force attack. Adelante!

Kudos for the skepticism despite the massive amounts of money raised and star-studded board. New payment methods need a far more compelling proposition than this. Merchants complain about processing costs but 1-2% is nothing compared to incremental sales. From the spender perspective, new payment methods need to expand the acceptance of plastic cards (or similar), not just try to shift existing acceptance.
